Setelah sebelumnya kita sudah memahami arti dan contoh reported speech lengkap rumus direct indirect-nya, sekarang Minco akan membawamu ke materi indirect speech yang lebih dalam lagi yakni macam-macam indirect speech. Dalam artikel ini, kita akan mempelajari indirect speech dalam bentuk imperative (kalimat perintah), statement (kalimat pernyataan), dan question (kalimat tanya). Yuk kita simak sama-sama!

Indirect Speech in form of Imperative

Imperative is a sentence that begins with a verb, it does not have a subject in the sentence. Imperatives can be: (Imperative merupakan kalimat yang diawali dengan kata kerja (verb), tidak memiliki subject pada kalimatnya. Imperatives dapat berupa):

● Commands : Open the door!
● Requests : Please, open the wind.
● Advice : treat your pet as your own family.
● Suggestions : sleep more.

Note :
Indirect command uses introductory verbs: tell, order, command, warn, and direct. Introductory verbs in indirect commands need a direct object. (Biasanya, introductory verb (kata pengantar) “said” dan “told” digunakan dalam reported speech, namun untuk imperative reported speech menggunakan kata pengantar tell, ask, order, command, warn, suggest dan direct.)

Positive Imperative

Indirect Speech: S + Introductory Verb + to + V1 + O/C

Direct Speech: S + Introductory Verb + don’t + V1 + O/C

Indirect Speech: S + Introductory Verb + not to + V1 + O/C

When changing direct speech to indirect speech, don’t forget to change the subject pronoun, object pronoun, and possessive adjective. (Ketika mengubah direct speech menjadi indirect speech, jangan lupa untuk mengubah subject pronoun (kata ganti subject), object pronoun (kata ganti object) dan possessive adjective (kata sifat untuk menyatakan sebuah kepemilikan).

Indirect Speech in form of Question

Yes/No Question

Yes-No question is a question that requires a yes or no answer. (Yes-No question adalah pertanyaan yang membutuhkan jawaban yes (ya) or no (tidak). Example:

★ Do you like ice cream? (The answer: yes or no) – Apakah kamu suka es krim?
★ Have you ever met a ghost? (The answer: yes or no) – Pernahkah kamu bertemu hantu?
★ Are you a student? (The answer: yes or no) – Apakah kamu seorang siswa?

Direct Speech: S + Introductory Verb (asked) + Auxiliary + S + V?

Indirect Speech: S + Introductory Verb (asked) + Object + if/whether + Statement

Information Questions/Wh-Questions Word

Wh-questions are questions starting with WH-words including: what, when, where, who, whom, which, whose, why and how. This question is used to ask/request information. (Wh-questions meliputi pertanyaan; what, when, where, who, whom, which, whose, why dan how. Pertanyaan ini digunakan menggunakannya untuk bertanya/meminta informasi).

Indirect Speech: S + asked + Object + Wh-Question Word
